The Durag Don
Chicago maestro of music and durags, ‘Kechi lives up to his moniker. Born Ikechi Chijiuba Ihemeson, ‘Kechi incorporates elements of hip hop, soul, jazz, classical, gospel and funk into his poetic, lyrical writing style, as he sings and raps about life from his own perspective of Blackness. He has graced the stages of Chicago venues such as Metro and Empty Bottle (as a headliner) and has collaborated with Chicago Fringe Opera, AT&T, Young Chicago Authors, Teach for America and Guitars Over Guns. ‘Kechi is also one of the founding members of hip-hop collective StoryBook, established in July 2019.
